Contradiction
I was having a discussion with a person who was telling me about how the marginalized shouldn't be viewed as having lesser value than any other person. My response was: "But that's why they're considered marginalized, isn't it?"
In the end, it was a matter of understanding and definition. I'm not one for the idea of intrinsic worth - for me, value is determined subjectively, by other people, and we value some people (or what they can do for us, anyway) more than we value others.
But there was a part of me that wondered if it wasn't words like "marginalized" and "powerless" that were the issue, because they informed people of what other people thought.
