Value Judgements

This is one of those things that strikes me as blindingly obvious. Which, to hear my father tell it, means that I'm the only person who sees it that way. Perhaps I'm simply bad at convincing other people to change their valuations of persons, places or things, and everyone else who's tried it was simply having an off day, but I've never seen someone be convinced to change how much they've valued something - or someone - simply because someone else told them to do so, regardless of how much vehemence went into the telling.
